23rd Annual “the PROPS” Awards Raises Over £300,000
Variety, the Children’s Charity, held its 23rd annual ‘the PROPS’ Awards at the London Hilton, Park Lane on Tuesday 13th May. A celebration of the very best in the property sector, it was a wonderful afternoon that raised over £300,000 to support the work of the charity and, in particular, for Variety’s Wheelchair programme.
With close to 800 guests, a packed ballroom was entertained and hosted by Martin Bayfield, a long-time supporter of Variety, who has now hosted this iconic event twice. He lent a cool and calm charm to proceedings, effortlessly taking a more comedic tone when required. Alongside Martin, Miss World 2014, Megan Young, presented awards to the lucky winners, including: Michael Slade, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Land Securities Retail, who received the Development of the Year Award for the Trinity Leeds development; and Irvine Sellar, founder of Sellar Property, who received the Deal of the Year Award for the Development by Sellar on behalf of London Bridge Quarter. Other awards were received by Steve Stone, CEO of Crest Nicholson; Berkeley Group; Eastdil Secured; Kennedy Wilson; Renshaw Bay; Battersea Power Station; Darryl Flay, founder of Essential Living; and Adam Joseph of Macquarie Bank.
Variety was delighted to have Ambassadors Megan Wood and Freya Levy join them for the afternoon. Both athletes are Team GB Paralympian hopefuls and, thanks to Variety providing them with their wheelchairs, they hope to go on to represent Great Britain within Paralympic Basketball.
The charity’s sincere thanks go to Megan, Freya and their families for their support and attendance at the event, allowing guests to see just how Variety actively helps to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged young people every day.
‘the PROPS’ appeal at this event raised over £300,000 for Variety’s Wheelchair Programme, exceeding all expectations. This generous support from the Property sector will go a long way to provide many more wheelchairs to children and young people across the UK.
Congratulations to all the winners!
