Winners announced for the 32nd PROPS Awards
Hosted by Variety, the Children’s Charity and Martin Bayfield (broadcaster and former international rugby player) at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London on Thursday 27th June, the standout event in the UK’s property industry’s calendar recognises and celebrates individuals and companies who have excelled in the sector – whilst raising vital funds for the children and young people that Variety support.
Awards were up for grabs in 15 categories, in addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award which was awarded to founders of Topland Group (one of the UK’s largest privately owned investment groups), Sol, and Eddie Zakay – and they were honoured at yesterday’s awards lunch.
From companies who have developed groundbreaking initiatives and managed to stand out in the UK’s crowded property sector, to individuals who have ‘done it their way’ by founding and running their own company, and the next generation of extraordinary property individuals, the sixteen accomplished winners were incredibly worthy.
Tuatara Real Estate took home the prestigious Commercial Agent of the Year within 18 months of launching. Co-founder, Dan Cohen said, “Winning this award means a hell of a lot to us given that we only started the business 18 months ago. We’ve worked really hard to get to this point, a very quick time after we started the business and we’re really proud of the achievement.
“Variety, the Children’s Charity is a really important charity. It’s a great cause and we think it’s a wonderful charity to support and we’re very proud to be supporters of them.”
Commenting on the secret of their success, co-founder Simon Perlmutter said, “Very, very hard work. Don’t give up, just keep going until you get where you want to be, and this is the first step in the right direction.”
The Young Property Person of the Year award was given to Clare Grimes from GRE Finance, who said: “It’s a real honour to be awarded the Young Property Person of the Year award. I’m genuinely surprised and honoured, in equal measure. It makes me feel so proud of the work I have put in over the years and I’m excited for what GRE Finance and I will achieve in the coming years.
“I am also passionate about promoting females within our industry – I am hoping this award inspires the next generation of female real estate leaders.”
LondonMetric were awarded the Deal of the Year award for their merger with LXi REIT plc – a deal which Chief Executive Andrew Jones referred to as “an amazing transaction and transformation for us”.
Nick Leslau (Non-Independent Director) shared the secret to their success; “The secret to this successful merger was the fact that we all got on really well. Any deal requires an enormous amount of chemistry. There was an absolutely natural and logical reason to do this deal and the chemistry of the people involved in it made it a joy. You can only make a good deal with good people.”
Ballymore were awarded the Development of the Year award for their incredible work on The Brentford Project. Managing Director, John Mulryan said; “After all the years of hard work, The Brentford Project has come to life and it’s everything we hoped it would be. We are very proud that is being recognised as not only a great place to live, but also a great place to visit. How the project integrates with the local community is the key to its success, and it has been particularly pleasing to hear how local residents have welcomed the development in their town centre.
“Variety is an amazing charity and when you see the incredible work they do, it puts things into perspective. We’re delighted to support them.”
With sustainability being high on the agenda of those in the property sector, Harrison Street were delighted to come out on top and be awarded with the Sustainability Award. Upon receiving the award, Senior Associate, Rose Newton said, “It’s a really big honour to be recognised – especially amongst some of the companies that we’ve been talking to today and some of the programmes that they have. We’re really proud to be a part of this event.
“Something that we place a lot of importance on is collaboration over competition. It’s a huge factor within the sustainability space. That’s why events like these are so important – we get the chance to speak to other likeminded organisations, learn, share, educate and bring together things that are going to push our collective sustainability programmes forward.”
CEO of Harrison Street Europe, Paul Bashir added, “We’ve been supporting Variety for over five years now. We believe that children are at the heart of everything we do – in terms of education, healthcare and society – and that’s integral in terms of everything we do and we’re proud to be here today.”
This year’s awards raised an incredible £420,000 for Variety, the Children’s Charity, adding to the £11 million+ the awards has raised since 1992. These vital donations ensure Variety can continue to provide practical support to disabled and disadvantaged children through providing wheelchairs, specialist equipment, their fully accessible Sunshine Coaches to SEND schools, and experiences on their Great Days Out.
Chair of The PROPS, Candice Sammeroff says:
We’ve had the most inspiring afternoon celebrating the incredible achievements of companies and individuals in the property sector, whilst raising enormous funds for Variety. It is an honour to play a part in making this happen and support the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK. Bring on 2025!
